Wisdom is like electricity. There is no permanently wise man, but men capable of wisdom, who, being put into certain company, or other favorable conditions, become wise for a short time, as glasses rubbed acquire electric power for a while. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

At bottom every man knows well enough that he is a unique being, only once on this earth; and by no extraordinary chance will such a marvelously picturesque piece of diversity in unity as he is, ever be put together a second time.  - Friedrich Nietzsche

I am much better employed from every point of view, when I live solely for my own satisfaction, than when I begin to worry about the world.  The world frightens me, and a frightened man is no good for anything.  – George Gissing

There is in a man an upwelling spring of life, energy, love, whatever you like to call it.  If a course is not cut for it, it turns the ground round it into a swamp.  – Mark Rutherford (William Hale White), More Pages from a Journal, 1910

To take something from a person and keep it for oneself:  that is robbery.  To take something from one person and then turn it over to another in exchange for as much money as you can get:  that is business.  Robbery is so much more stupid, since it is satisfied with a single, frequently dangerous profit; whereas in business it can be doubled without danger.  – Octave Mirbeau, Torture Garden

Posted by admin | Blogs | Saturday 5 June 2010 2:42 am

Bret Hart of WWE Fame hails US Title Victory as one last great momentWWE’s new U.S. champion, Bret Hart “Hitman”, published a blog on his Facebook page terming the unexpected U.S. Title victory on Monday’s Raw as “one last great moment” for him and his fans.

Bret remarked that he is still in a state of disbelief after being crowned United States Champion for the fifth time.

From PWTorch.com:

The tone of Hart‘s blog suggested what seems obvious that Hart was given a “feel good moment” in Canada and he will be holding the U.S. Title belt only for a short while.

It’s an interesting turn of events. Going back to last week, Hart said on his Facebook page that he didn’t even know he was booked for a U.S. Title match until his son, Blade, told him about the announcement on last week’s Raw.

“I’m truly grateful for this moment to be here in Toronto celebrating one of the craziest weeks of my thousand-year old career,” Hart said. “I can’t wait to tell Kyra (his new granddaughter) that her grandpa just won the United States championship in front of the world with Natalya, David Hart Smith, and Tyson Kidd cheering me on along with the rest of the Air Canada Centre.”

Bret quipped, “I go to sleep tonight believing in my heart that this was one last great little moment for my fans all over the world.”

Be ready to pay tax if you aim to convert IRA to a Roth IRA

Posted by admin | Blogs | Thursday 3 June 2010 2:40 am

Be ready to pay tax if you aim to convert IRA to a Roth IRAIf you have many IRAs (individual retirement arrangements) but want to convert any of them to a Roth, you can get the conversion but you must be ready to pay taxes on the gains for the respective account by including them in the taxable income.

Mark Nash, an accounting expert with PricewaterhouseCoopers, says that a pro-rata rule exists when it comes to calculating how much of the conversion must be included in the taxable income after conversion of a traditional IRA to a Roth.

From USAtoday.com:

Let’s say you have two IRAs, both are worth $10,000. On IRA 1, you have a basis of $5,000 since you contributed $5,000 in after-tax dollars. In IRA 2, you have no basis, as all the contributions were made with untaxed, or pre-tax dollars. If you convert one of the IRAs to a Roth, you must follow these steps:

1. Measure the ratio of the conversion. In this case, you are converting $10,000 of a total IRA value of $20,000, or 50%.

2. Apply ratio to your basis. Multiply 50%, or 0.5, by your basis, to get $2,500.

3. Subtract the pro rata basis from the conversion amount. This would be the Roth conversion of $10,000 minus the pro rata basis of $2,500 from step 2. That means you have income on your Roth conversion of $10,000 minus $2,500 or $7,500.

The possibility of a Roth conversion is expected to offer great relief to middle-class families trying to save hard-earned money.

Apple’s iTunes marketing under questions

Apple's iTunes marketing under questionsApple, America’s largest music retailer is reportedly under scrutiny over its marketing tactics for its iTunes music store from the Justice Department.

Apple is the biggest name in the world of music sales in the United States and responsible for approximately 70 percent of online music sold in the country.

From Kyw1060.com:

America’s largest music retailer is reportedly under scrutiny from the Justice Department over its marketing tactics for its iTunes music store.

Apple is the biggest player in American music sales, responsible for about 70 percent of online music sold in this country. It’s how it got there that has federal investigators asking questions of its competitors.

The New York Times and CNet, which is owned by CBS, are reporting that antitrust investigators are asking questions about Apple’s alleged refusal to let rival Amazon.com offer exclusive access to some tracks a day before their wide release. A report from Billboard Magazine earlier this spring suggested the Apple would respond by not promoting those tracks on iTunes.

Investigations by the Justice Department are said to be in their early phases.
